Travel is Changing – Are You Ready for Something Different?
We’re seeing a shift in the way people want to travel. Today’s traveller isn’t after cookie-cutter bus tours or tourist traps—they’re seeking something more meaningful, with slower travel, real connections, and the chance to experience a place with purpose and perspective.
This change comes at a time when many parts of the world are struggling with overtourism. Headlines about protests in European cities and restrictions on short-term rentals reflect growing concerns about the impact of mass tourism. A recent video showing masses of tourists around a wildebeest river crossing, negatively affecting their natural actions, has drawn huge condemnation. It’s no wonder people are looking for something different.
So, where to next?
An African Christmas: Memories, Wildlife & Festive Traditions
I can remember many Christmas-time preparations spent scouring the African bush for an appropriate Acacia branch, with as many large white thorns as possible, that we would set up as our Christmas tree and adorn with traditional northern-hemisphere Christmas decorations.
Now, when I pull the artificial Christmas tree out of storage from under the house, it just isn’t the same, but it does still prompt so many fond memories.
We are proud to announce that Sean Lues has been awarded Outstanding Asia Destination Achiever, and Journeys Worldwide has been recognised as the Africa & Middle East Travel Agency Achiever. A special thank you to Margaret, who travelled down to the ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, to represent us!
We’ve had an exciting week or two when, firstly, I was nominated for an award at the Travel Agent Day Australia, 2024 expo – as an Outstanding Asia Destination Expert.
A couple of days later we were then advised that Journeys Worldwide had also been nominated: for the Africa Travel Agency Achiever Award.
Unfortunately, I wont be able to attend the expo and awards ceremony, being held at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne on the 2nd October (I’ll be on safari!), but Margaret Freebairn has kindly agreed to fly down to represent us.
